# Volume I — Foundations · Manuscript Structure The Volume I manuscript follows a fixed ten-section reader path. Each section narrates one facet of the foundations without redefining any ratified principle. Section ids and order are asserted by `verifySectionOrder()` in `validation.ts`. | # | Section id | Title | |---|-----------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------| | 1 | `vol-i-sec-01-introduction` | Introduction | | 2 | `vol-i-sec-02-why-stewardship-exists` | Why Stewardship Exists | | 3 | `vol-i-sec-03-object-of-stewardship` | The Object of Stewardship | | 4 | `vol-i-sec-04-understanding-worth-protecting` | Understanding as Something Worth Protecting | | 5 | `vol-i-sec-05-responsibility-of-the-steward` | The Responsibility of the Steward | | 6 | `vol-i-sec-06-continuity-across-time` | Continuity Across Time | | 7 | `vol-i-sec-07-human-and-ai` | Relationship Between Human Judgment and AI Assistance | | 8 | `vol-i-sec-08-boundaries-of-stewardship` | Boundaries of Stewardship | | 9 | `vol-i-sec-09-practice-foundations` | Practice Foundations | | 10 | `vol-i-sec-10-closing-reflection` | Closing Reflection | ## Principle carry-forward Each section names the principle ids it carries forward through `ManuscriptSection.carriesForward`. All ten ratified principles from `hsg-volume-1.ts` are covered at least once; `verifyPrinciplesFullyCarried()` enforces this. ## Editorial register Sections narrate. They never restate a principle's canonical statement verbatim (`verifySectionsDoNotRestatePrinciples()`), never credit AI as author of stewardship meaning (`verifyNoAiAuthorship()`), and never reference product implementation details such as tables, routes, or components (`verifyNoImplementationCoupling()`). ## File map ``` src/platform/stewardship/posterity-library/books/hsg/volume-i/ ├── index.ts — barrel ├── volume.ts — HSG_VOLUME_FOUNDATIONS (frozen manuscript record) ├── sections.ts — VOLUME_I_SECTIONS + VOLUME_I_REVIEW_QUESTIONS ├── references.ts — principle / doctrine / pattern / grammar / practice / review ids ├── history.ts — VOLUME_I_MANUSCRIPT_HISTORY (append-only) └── validation.ts — invariant functions consumed by tests ```
