Principles never disappear. When understanding evolves, the change is recorded as an amendment — an append-only entry that references the amended principle by id. The original statement remains permanently visible.
Amendment kinds#
- clarification — restate the original meaning more clearly.
- extension — broaden scope without contradicting the original.
- supersession — the original is retired in favor of a new statement; both remain visible.
- context-note — record historical context around interpretation.
Rules#
- Append-only.
amendmentAppendIsSafe(before, after)proves it. - The
originalStatementfield is frozen; only new amendments may add to the record. - Amendments never overwrite the ratified volume prose — they accompany it.
