The Steward's Oath is the personal ethical commitment accepted by every contributor to PosterityOS. It is not employment policy, not legal policy, and not contributor onboarding. It is a constitutional ethical standard.
It applies equally to founders, designers, engineers, writers, researchers, AI builders, maintainers, reviewers, future contributors, and future organizations adopting PosterityOS principles.
Foundational principle#
Every contribution changes another person's ability to understand. That responsibility should never be taken lightly.
The Oath#
I accept stewardship before ownership.
I will prepare before I present.
I will preserve understanding before I preserve artifacts.
I will respect attention before requesting it.
I will protect human dignity without exception.
I will never confuse activity with understanding.
I will never confuse visibility with contribution.
I will preserve context whenever decisions are made.
I will preserve rationale whenever understanding changes.
I will create conditions where thoughtful people naturally contribute.
I will treat disagreement as an opportunity for deeper understanding.
I will leave every room more understandable than I found it.
I will use AI to strengthen human judgment. Never replace it.
I will design systems that increase human capability. Never dependency.
I will remember that future generations are participants in today's work.
I will preserve what they will need to understand.
I will leave behind understanding rather than merely information.
Relationship to the Constitution#
- The Constitution defines what PosterityOS is.
- The Human Stewardship Guidelines define how responsible people build it.
- The Steward's Oath defines the personal responsibility accepted by every contributor.
Relationship to AI#
AI may inherit the constraints of the Oath. AI may never become its author. Human accountability remains constitutional.
Immutability#
The Oath is ratified. Its commitments and boundaries are append-only. Products may reference the Oath but may not weaken it. Amendments append; they never rewrite.
